In order to recognize and encourage the work done by farmers and fruit marketing centre to provide consumers with high sensory quality fruit, Joves Agricultors i Ramaders de Catalunya (JARC) announces the fourth edition of International Award to the best Apple of the ‘Golden’ variety.
Individuals or legal entities may opt to the award, either individually or collectively. Participants may submit one or more samples of fruit properly labelled with the name of the owner, their origin and lot to which it belongs.
Registration for the contest starts the day of the announcement and will end on November 27, 2020.

RECEIPT OF SAMPLES
Receipt of samples will be held from November 30 to December 4 (at 2 p.m.), addressed to:
Gemma Echeverría Parc Científic i Tecnològic Agroalimentari de Lleida.
Parc de Gardeny, IRTA, Edifici Fruitcentre, E-25003 Lleida. Spain
Samples will not be accepted without prior registration. The samples shall be clearly identified with the same data that were used in the registration. In order to ensure the anonymity of the contestants, once received the samples in the IRTA (Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries), these will be immediately coded with a three-digit random code, that will be later used in the assessments. Samples shall be immediately stored at 0,5 ° C until their use.
JURY AND FAULT OF THE AWARD
On the one hand, a group of experts of recognized prestige from IRTA and from the fruit sector, will define the aspects or attributes to assess and how it should be evaluated according to their experience and according to the current marketing criteria. On the other hand, a panel of sensory experts trained by the IRTA will evaluate the samples.
In a first phase, the experts panel will describe, in a scale from 1 to 9, the appearance, flavour, sweetness, acidityand texture of all the samples received. The different attributes will be defined and weighted in accordance with the criteria previously established by the group of experts. On the basis of the data obtained in this first phase, IRTA will provide a list with the 5 best samples. Then, these 5 best samples will be recoded and evaluated again by the IRTA experts panel.
This second recoding will avoid possible memories and relations with the initial codes and allow panellists to make a second description of the samples. The results of this second phase will allow to establish the order of the 5 best samples, being the highest scoring the winner of the award.
The resolution obtained shall be final, renouncing the contestants to any kind of judicial or extrajudicial proceedings.
The ruling will be made public before December 31st.
The prize shall consist of a service of marketing advice.

REGISTRATION: from November 9th to November 27th, 2020.
RECEIPT OF THE SAMPLES: from November 30th until 2 pm, on December 4th, 2020 until 2pm.
PUBLIC TASTING: until December 31st
